Remove protected branch (from view) instead of deleting it

If a maintainer has configured a token with enough permissions a protected branch can be deleted (though API). Provide a way to prevent branch deletion by removing the branch from the panel instead of deleting it.

Thank you for your response and for clarifying the current behaviour. I’d like to summarise our requirements and seek further clarification:
we noted that the existing “Add Confirmation Dialog to Delete Branch” feature applies for Developer roles when deleting protected branches. we request that this same confirmation dialog be extended to Maintainer roles when dealing with protected branches.
Additionally, we wish the “remove the branch from the panel” operation (triggered via integrations or the API) for protected branches to be included in this protection and confirmation flow.
From your explanation: you mentioned a user with Maintainer permissions and a suitably configured token can delete a protected branch via the API, and your suggested mitigation is to provide the capability to “remove the branch from the panel” rather than full deletion.
Could you please clarify:
Whether the “remove from panel” option will cover both UI actions and API/integration‑based branch removal (“REMOVE” operation)?

Hi David Labra Gaona, Since the "Add Confirmation Dialog to Delete Branch" feature is already working as designed for users with Developer access, the same confirmation dialog should be extended to users with Maintainer access as part of this feature when the branch is protected. Additionally, it would be beneficial to consider including the "REMOVE" operation for protected branches within the scope of this feature delivery.
